The Closer: Pilot (Season 1, June 13, 2005)
One of the greatest character introductions I’ve ever seen.
In just three and a half minutes, Kyra Sedgwick establishes Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson as, first of all, an outsider — and also a woman who is extremely good at her job and has absolutely no problem dealing with men who don’t want her on the scene.
Brenda is in a very, very select group of my favorite TV characters of all-time. Perhaps second only to Sydney Bristow.
In 2005, I spent a lot of time watching the NBA playoffs, and TNT showed a lot of commercials for The Closer — I’m so very glad they did! Brenda and The Closer were one of the best parts of every summer.
This episode was also the beginning of my love affair with that sweater, perhaps my favorite article of clothing on TV.

The only thing wrong with sex?
When it’s not consensual.
Because that’s not sex. That’s rape.
